Despite Prime Minister Boris Johnson saying he was committed to curbing the climate crisis at the UN climate talks earlier this month, the UK government is still fuelling the fire by pledging over US$1 billion (around £730 million) to support a new climate-wrecking gas project in Mozambique.
The government needs to be doing all it can to support a transition to renewable energy, not propping up new fossil fuel projects. By doing so, it’s acting against its commitments under the Paris Agreement.
That’s why we’re challenging the government’s decision to fund this project in court in December.
But it doesn’t have to come to this. The Prime Minister can still intervene and withdraw support for this new mega-project in Mozambique once and for all.
So will you sign our petition and ask the Prime Minister to stand by his commitment to climate action?
Pressure on the government is at an all-time high after the UN climate talks. Now’s the time to demand it takes its commitment to climate action seriously.
