Northern Ireland is being targeted for large-scale extractive projects which would damage the environment and devastate communities.
Current plans contain oil and gas extraction, including fracking, and some of the biggest mineral mines ever proposed in Europe.
Our land has already been ravaged by unauthorised mining over many decades. Now, over 25% of land in Northern Ireland is licenced to mining corporations for large-scale mining projects - a figure that could rise to 70%.
We have no government or independent Environmental Protection Agency. On top of this, we now face the very real threat of losing environmental and human rights protections from Europe.
If we're to safeguard the environtment the Petroleum and Mineral licencing regimes must change.
Join us in calling for the Department for the Economy to carry out Strategic Environmental and Human Rights checks on all licence applications.
